The Silent Strength of Earth

This painting marks the second piece in my "Elements Series." As the title suggests, the silent strength of the earth reveals itself not through something loud or grand, but rather through its constant presence.

It was important to me to give this aspect special attention, as I find the earth to be one of the most impressive elements of all. In today's world, I feel its power is incredibly healing and vital: something that is simply always there. Slow, strong, and steadfast. At times, the earth seems almost slumbering to me, yet simultaneously and steadily watchful.

The texture of the painting is intentionally reminiscent of tree bark and lichen. They form the foundation of this piece, guiding the eye like a shepherd across a map of colors.

For the palette, I was guided by the nature of Greece and by childhood memories. I grew up in a house at the edge of a forest, where trees were visible from every window. This led to a blend of various earth tones that partly flow into one another, much like a network of roots beneath the surface.

The work is neither pompous nor purely minimalist. The forms are not strictly defined, yet the lines do not simply dissolve into nothingness. It radiates growth and presence, captured in a single moment of life.

What the earth truly means to me is something I've only come to understand over time. What is the first thing that comes to your mind when I say "Element Earth"?

Is it stones, the ground beneath your feet, plants, or perhaps the entire globe? For me, I've realized it is primarily growth, or what we recognize as such in our world. To me, that means plants and, above all, trees, which have fascinated me for years and for whose existence I am deeply grateful.

Some time ago, a close friend asked me which element I would personally identify with. To this day, I find it difficult to answer, and I remain impressed by how clear his own sense of belonging was. Apparently, I can't quite make up my mind.

Isn't that a fascinating question to ask yourself? Which element do you feel you belong to the most?
