"Terra Incognita"
Reading time: approx. 2 min
Actually, I had a different plan in mind. In my series of elements, it was decided that I would dedicate myself to the next element, but as it sometimes happens when you embark on an artistic journey, the project had other plans for me.
The earth would not let me go. And so, a new piece has emerged that occupies my thoughts today: Terra Incognita.
"Unknown land", that is what this translation means to me. It is a term that has been going through my head for many years. I find it fascinating because it is absolutely timeless. Regardless of whether I am in a place I know inside and out, or whether I am stepping into new territory: the world is in constant flux. With every step we take, with every day that passes, we make new discoveries - be it within ourselves and/or in the world around us.
The last few years have felt to me as if I were carving a wooden sculpture out of a massive log. You remove what is superfluous to reveal the core. I am constantly changing, learning every day, and moving through a terrain that is often still foreign to me.
I believe it is no coincidence that I have not yet dared to take the leap into the element of air or fire. The earth element, which now also forms the core of Terra Incognita, seems to be of deeper significance to my personal development than I had initially assumed. Perhaps I am mistaken, perhaps it is just a phase, but this thought is currently opening up an incredibly exciting new perspective for me.
I have always been searching for my roots and still do not have the feeling of being "at home" anywhere. When I look at it from this perspective, it is only logical that the theme of "grounding" is holding me for a little longer. It gives me stability. It keeps me grounded, even when my mind might have wanted to move on. It also reminds me again, that a home must first arise within me before I can look for it in the outside world.
I am curious to see where this journey through my own unknown land will lead me and how the creative process within the series of elements will continue to unfold.
