"Surrendered to the water"
Reading time: approx. 1 min
Growing up in the mountains, I saw the sea maybe once a year. I remember having tears in my eyes as a child when we traveled to the sea again with my family. It felt like a reunion with a good old friend or perhaps even with a guiding authority. A bit like 'Grandmother Willow' from the Walt Disney film "Pocahontas".
Today, for the first time in my life, I perceived the colors of the sea quite consciously. Not that I hadn't done so at all before, but it was more of a marveling observation like a photo subject. If you take the time and become aware of your environment, you discover so much beauty, even in the smallest moment. That might sound cheesy now or like a rather flat calendar saying, but I mean it exactly like that.

On this day, I decided to capture the colors of the sea with my eyes and let the image shape itself.
What does that mean?
It means that I used sea water for this painting, for example, to let the colors flow within it. Exactly as they want to. Why should I control something that is as powerful and free as the sea or water in general. As one of the elements, I have great respect for its power and for the significance it has always had for humans, animals, and the entire world.
This painting is part of the 10x10 series that I started a while ago.
"Sea water on watercolor paper with watercolor and acrylic"
Letting this painting emerge on a Wednesday morning directly by the sea is, for me, simply complete richness. In such moments, I feel absolutely fulfilled and in contact with life and the elements. Painting always brings me back to myself anyway, but being able to paint outside in nature is, in my perception, another level up.
Thus, I am once again very grateful for such moments and the many possibilities that life offers me.
