"Aurelia"

Reading time: approx. 2 min

Some time ago, I took a canvas outside for the first time. Until then, I had only travelled with watercolor paper because I found it too demanding or incredibly impractical. How wonderful that I finally just did it.

"Aurelia" is a painting that was created over several weeks. On the day it began, I walked with my dog into the hills near the village where we live. Between olive trees and birdsong we sat down, and I let myself be inspired by the sun and its warmth on my skin. The sun is strongly reflected in 'Aurelia' through the gold and yellow colors, underlining the power of this element even if it is not recognizable as the most dominant part of the palette

At about the same time, I was working on a piece about the element "Earth" and realized how differently these two paintings felt. Aurelia feels as if you are being lifted towards the sky in a warm embrace of sun rays. Surrounded by color accents from nature. Colors that can now be seen everywhere here in spring. Light colors, cold as well as warm, matching the season, dancing around the power of the sun, the power of life.

In certain parts of the work, this piece is also similar to the element Earth. What they have in common is this sense of connection with everything that lives. A symbiosis in a world that currently seems to me as if it is falling apart. This may sound a little skeptical, but I often feel an uncertainty in society that radiates like an aura into the environment. I did not have this feeling at all in the place where Aurelia was created.

When I sit there in nature, surrounded by so many beautiful things, I feel safe. As described before: as if in a warm embrace. Bringing these inner processes and states of consciousness onto a canvas is exactly what I want to do. As I have mentioned in other posts, I notice how much this approach benefits my nervous system. Simply sitting there, simply looking around, simply feeling and giving a color to these unspoken feelings or perceptions.

Writing the journal posts helps me to reflect once more and to immerse myself in the moments when a painting was created. However, I notice that it is often harder to find the right words than it is to tell the story through color, shape and texture.

Aurelia is a work that also envelops you as the viewer in an embrace of sun rays, accompanied by the spring colors of nature. Aurelia invites the person viewing it to celebrate this warmth and connection of our surroundings and our existence in the here and now, and to re-center themselves. Centered in one's own golden middle, in the inner circle, respectfully connected with what surrounds you.
